This was our most outstanding anniversary celebration to date! Plain and simple. We wanted to celebrate this major milestone in part on the road. So, months ago we agreed that to travel to New England to enjoy leaf change foliage along with visiting our 50th and final US state of Vermont would be "icing on the anniversary cake", so to speak!

We left Mansfield on Sunday May 29th and returned June 10th. We drove the 2010 Ford F-150 Lariat some 4850 miles on this trip--traveling from Atlanta thru Nashville, St. Louis, Lincoln, Nebraska and I-80 thru Provo, Utah on into Boise. Similar to last summer's trip West, it was once again very windy on the Plains. Our travels this time took us to a high elevation of 8000 feet (with snow on the higher mountains seen from a distance) with a low temp of 54 degrees! We spent most nights on the road in either the Marriott or Holiday Inn Brands. Going out and back we spent nights in cities that included:

St. Louis, Missouri

Lincoln, Nebraska

Rock Springs, Wyoming

Salt Lake City, Utah,

Laramie, Wyoming

The bulk of our stay was in the Residence Inn across from the Boise State University--same hotel we stayed in this past Christmas trip.

2011 Garden Under Way

We skipped having a garden in 2010 due to our summer travels out west. So, the weeds and grass were doubly hard to remove since they had had two years to get out of control.

To begin clean-up, I first used the Kubota with the Bush Hog. Afterwards, I used the Troybilt industrial mower--running it across the garden several times--lowering the mowing deck each time.

Finally, I cleared the rows with a rake and then used the Husquvarna Tiller--making several passes each time and removing additional weeds and grass. My garden has always had 6 rows, this year I decided to add a seventh.

The photos below show the final tilled rows. In the next couple of days, I will till in 10-10-10 fertilizer and then be ready to plant after Easter.

Men's Cologne from the Past

Back in the 80's, it was very common for men to wear cologne. At the office, church, on dates, even a quick trip to the grocery store. It was simply expected. The large cologne manufacturers loved the income. To sweeten the deal, a lot of retailers would offer special promotions--usually a handbag in the same color canvas as their product and would include their logo embedded on the side. Good marketing and free advertising.

Here is the collection I gathered together over a few years. My favorite was Polo--the green bottle. If you look closely, you might notice it is almost empty. On trips to Europe I would buy several "foreign" colognes--while they were good, I brought them mostly for the novelty of a foreign made product. Wearing cologne was the thing to do--or the IN thing.

Enter 2002. All that changed. June 18th I had a 4 hour lower back surgery. After 6 days of hospital recovery, I came home. Upon entering the front door, I realized my nose was more sensitive than ever. So sensitive in fact, I had all the clothes washing detergent removed and started with some that was scent free. From that day forward, I have a major aversion to overwhelming smells--particularly colognes. I have not worn a cologne since. Even my body deodorant is scent free. It is so bad, that if someone in a restaurant has cologne on, I must move away. If a person enters the elevator I am on with cologne, i will get off the next first floor.

So, there you have it. A beautiful (and at the time very expensive) collection of cologne that I can not use. Check back with me 20 years from now and I bet the bottles will have the same amount as they do today!!

Shooting and St Pattys

What does shooting and St Patty's have in common? Absolutely nothing! Just not much to write about so I decided to add these two short events together on the same thread.

Our massage therapist purchased a Ruger snub nose 38 revolver recently. Having never shot it, I invited her out early during our normal bi-weekly massage, and we would head down toward the creek and "break it in"! Tiffany arrived an hour early last Monday on a very nice, mild, and sunny day. Carol took a few photos and off we went. The gun shot well for it's intended use--to be a defense weapon at close range. We shot some of my reloads and factory loads. She is now more familiar with it's action, how to load and unload, and what sort of report and recoil to expect when firing.

As to St Patty's--here we are at our favorite Mexican Restaurant--Pachos in Madison. We had our usual lunch--Carol always orders the chicken enchilada with rice and I have the mini-chicken Taco salad with rice. We asked our waitress to take the photo. Note we both are wearing green and Carol has her special St Patty's lapel pin. Great day!

Jim & Laurel Cressman 2011 (3-1)

Jim Cressman and I go way back! We both had long careers with Allstate Commercial and retired from same--Jim 2004 and I 2009. Over the years, our paths would cross since I was the Territorial Commercial Manager and Jim was in Claims--specializing in GL.

A couple of weeks ago Jim e-mail me asking if the four (4) of us could get together for lunch. He and Laurel are headed out on a belated honeymoon for about 30 days and will travel many places Carol and I have been in the past and wanted input-direction from us as to some places we could recommend.

We arrived today at the Chili's at Stone Crest Mall on I-20 around 11:30. It was great seeing Jim again after several years, and meeting his lovely wife Laurel for the first time. Over the next hour we discussed many areas and attractions we enjoyed in our westward travels and gave them printed copies of maps and brochures I had scanned just for them.

Again, we had a good time and hope they have a super fun and safe trip as they head out in May.

Shooting at the Charlie Elliott Range

On Thursday, February 24Th, 2011, friend from church Gary Christian arrived as planned around 10:15 a.m. and off we went to the handgun shooting range at Charlie Elliott--about 5 miles from home.

For the next hour or so, I shot my Glock 35 Tactical 40 S&W while Gary tried out his new compact Smith & Wesson 40 S&W. Gary also brought along an inherited 38 snub nose Smith & Wesson. His new pistol shot and performed well.

We had a good time! First time I had ever gone with Gary. Also, it had been 2008 or 3 years ago since I shot this Glock. As always, it performed admirably keeping groups of 1-1/2 inch at 50 feet on the bench.

Valentines 2011-Nashville Train Ride

For our 20 years, Carol and I have taken turns planning, executing, and surprising the other as to where we would celebrate Valentines Day--an all time important date as it was 2-14-1991 that I proposed to Carol.

This year was Carol's turn to make the plans. She would have loved to surprise me as in years past, but when it involves an overnight stay for our Yorkie, Mattie, a total surprise is out of the question. So, I knew a couple weeks out where we were going and was really excited.

We left Mansfield around 10:00 am on Friday the 11th and dropped Mattie off at Pet Smart in Smyrna, Georgia--after making sure she was in good hands and would get the suite we pay extra for in overnight stays. From there, we headed north on I-75 as my new Nuvii 1450 navigated the 2010 Ford F150 Lariat to I-24 in Chattanooga and on to Nashville--arriving early afternoon. Early enough in fact that we stopped at a local mall and had fun shopping and later ate dinner at a Moe's Mexican Restaurant--it was good.

We found 1001 Broadway without much effort and after turning the truck over to Adam at Valet parking, checked into room 708 on the top floor overlooking the train yard. Union Station Hotel is on the National Registry of Hotels and of course was a thrill for us to be staying in a vintage icon with so much history (this railway terminal was built in 1900). We go for this kind of thing!!! Our room and accommodations were very inviting and comfortable. We settled in for the one night stay as it had been a long day, some 300 miles on the road. Before going to bed, we called Pet Smart just to check on our girl. All is well!

Saturday the 12th came bright and early. Took showers, dressed, re-packed and headed out around 8:00 or so. A few blocks over we arrived at 220 Willow Street where the Tennessee Central Railway Museum keeps it's classical engines and passenger cars. After parking and waiting a few minutes, we got in line and soon boarded car #4739 and found our first class seats 21 & 22.

After all 500 passengers had boarded and safety instruction was given by our car volunteer conductor, we left on time. Once in route, Tutz and I negotiated to the front cars where we brought a Xmas ornament, a charm, and a couple lapel pins. Next, we dropped by the deli for soft drinks, chips, and ham biscuit. Back to our seats and enjoyed the 42 mile ride due east to the small town of Watertown.

Once we had departed, we made the short walk to the city center and spent a couple hours browsing shops and eating lunch at Lulu's. Carol was very pleasantly surprised at the local small drug store where she brought a ring that has 3 interchangeable charms--they are also compatible with her Pandora and Trollbead charms.

Back to the train and we promptly departed as planned at 1:15 pm. Again, we enjoyed the trip/ride. This Valentine's special included a Murder Mystery so on the way back we found out who "did it"!

As soon as we returned to the train terminal in Nashville, we quickly returned to the truck and made our way to I-24. Since we are in Central time, we lost an hour and made us push it a little more to get the Pet Smart Hotel before they close at 9:00 EST. We made it with time to spare and had a very happy Yorkie who was so glad to see us. We arrived at Little Falls Farm around 10:00. This was one of the best ever Valentines celebration ever!

Universal City Walk in Orlando

As planned, I drove down to Orlando on Friday, February 4th, 2011 for the sole purpose of attending the annual Hard Rock Cafe event of "Pins Gone Wild". This is a large pin collecting/trading event and attracts traders from all over the world. My plans were simple. Make Friday travel day--it took the better part of the day to make the 420 mile drive--spend all day at the event on Saturday, and drive back home on Sunday.

So, as it were, on Saturday morning I parked in the Universal Paid Parking Garage on the Hong Kong level row 209 and proceeded the long walk thru security on to the Universal Citywalk where the large Hard Rock Cafe is. The event started at 9:00 but I arrived early at 8:00. That extra hour allowed me to walk around the lake and take photos.

So here are the photos of some of the stores and restaurants.

Joe Horne Belated 58th--2011 (1-20) Milledgeville

Joe Horne and I share a common date--our birthday is on January 19th--he was born in 1953 and I in 1951. As has been the tradition for a few years, Carol (Joe's sister) has always baked Joe a chocolate pound cake--without frosting--just as their mother made growing up.

So, today Carol and I drove the Lariat (no rain in the forecast) down to Joe's marina in Milledgeville on Lake Sinclair and presented him with his annual pound cake! As for years past, Joe was delighted--as much to see his sister or as much as to get the pound cake--only Joe would know!

Having said that, I took the liberty to take a few photos of Carol, Joe, Brooks, and myself along with the marina. Here they are. Postscript--JoNell had the day off.

60th Birthday--The Best Yet--Thanks to Carol!!!

My 60th birthday arrived whether I was ready or not! As I have always said, getting older is better than the alternative.

To recap this most wonderful day and probably the best birthday ever--thanks to my dear wife--I first opened a beautiful card with the best love expressions known to me! Next, I opened my presents--a beautiful Mahogany cuff link display/collection case with new cuff links Carol really put some thought into which included: Stars and Strips; GOP Elephant; Guns; Hammer & Saw; Cameras; and Guitars! These were so me!! Also, Carol gave me the book I wanted titled: "Winners Never Cheat" by Jon Huntsman. All this in addition to the GPS Nuvii 1450T and case Carol gave me back in Boise during Christmas when we celebrated Derek and Maya's birthdays. Also, Carol paid for my massage last night with Tiffany--who extended from 1 hour to 1 and half hours!

After opening my unexpected gifts, we drove to Macon where we had lunch at Long Horn. The waitress Christi recognized me when I use to stop here almost weekly when travelling on Allstate business. She shared with the manager that it was my 60th birthday and I was a great customer--he brought our lunch--what a great guy. Carol had her usual shrimp and baked potato, I had my chicken fingers with rice and steamed veggies--all was great!

From there, my surprise was a tour of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. This was great and something I had wanted to do for years but just never did! We spent at least 2 hours there and brought a charm, couple of tack pins, and a long sleeve tee for me.

On our way home, we stopped at the large Belk Department store at the new mall on SR 23--I found the black belt I had been looking for.

We arrived home around 5:30. Carol fixed me a great salad. I have received calls from the kids and Kaye. Plus, I received some 160 "Happy Birthdays" on Face Book.

What a great 60th Birthday. I must say, one of the best yet!

Last Day as 59 Years Young

Today was my 60th Birthday Eve--Jan 18th, 2011. I had a wonderful time with my sweetie who has made this milestone so very special. After a quick stop by the Post Office and local BB&T Bank, we ate lunch in Conyers at Appleby's next to Belk. Tutz had her usual--the lunch combo of soup and a shrimp salad. I had the grilled chicken oriental salad.

We had a few extra minutes, so we browsed at the Belk next door where Carol found some great deals.

Next, we went to the 1:00 showing of "The Fockers" at the Carmike Theatre. The movie was as we expected, a great comedy and the third in the "Meet The Parents" series with Robert DiNero and Ben Stiller along with Owen Wilson.

We arrived home around 3:30 to find several packages delivered by the USPS. Afterwards, we took showers and Tiffany McMichael, our Massage Therapist, arrived as planned at 5:00--she comes over every other Tuesday. Carol and I both look forward to the hour long massage she gives to us both--Carol gets the deep tissue and I more of a combination of Swedish and deep tissue. Today was special for two reasons, Carol paid for my massage as part of my birthday, and Tiffany extended from the usual 1 hour to 1 and half hours--she is so sweet! Plus, I had Carol take a few photos of Tiffany and I since I did not have any of us together where as I did with Carol's birthday.

Afterwards, we ate dinner and watched TV. What a grand day and I still have tomorrow--my official birthday-to go!!!

Christmas 2010--SLC and Boise

We spent the 2010 Christmas season away from Georgia--first time ever! We flew into Salt Lake City on Friday December 17Th, and returned home on the 29Th!

This was by far one of the best-- if not the very best trips-- we have ever made. It was so delightful to spend the time with Derek, Lori, Maya, Kyle and Avery in Meridian--just a few minutes from Boise, Idaho!

On Friday the 17Th, as planned, Aaron arrived at Little Falls around 8:30am and took us to the Atlanta airport.

The photos below are just some of the highlights of this wonderful trip. The Christmas lights on Temple Square were phenomenal and were also a highlight of the trip.

I might add here that this was the first flight for our 6 year old, 6 pound Yorkie, Mattie. After much drugging (prescribed tranquilizers and Valium--as instructed by our vet), she only whimpered a little on the flight out, and completely slept on the trip back. She had to be confined in a pet carrier (red Vera Bradley) and sit at Carol's feet under the seat. Pets are not allowed out of their carrier during flights--per Delta.

We spent Friday and Saturday nights in Salt Lake City--just 3 blocks from Temple Square at a Marriott Residence Inn. On Sunday--19Th, we drove to Boise arriving early afternoon. After checking into the downtown Boise Residence Inn just across from Boise State University--we visited Derek and family.

Each day, we let Mattie stay at the one and only Pet Smart Hotel in the area--she got use to Bud, Meagan, Charlie, and other staff members. While we rented the Residence for the week--we did spend Christmas Eve at Derek and Lori's so we could watch the faces of the kids on Christmas Day.

Derek, Lori and family have some great traditions for this special Christmas season. These include: opening only 1 gift on Christmas eve; driving through the neighborhoods and looking at Christmas lights (local neighbors had synchronized their lights with local radio station--that was awesome); reading the scriptures about the birth of our Savior and why we celebrate the season; and dinner is always fondue with chicken, steak, and shrimp. Last two traditions are to monitor Santa through NASA and to also leave Santa chocolate chip cookies, milk and a note!

Christmas Day was very special as there are two traditions. Kids do not come downstairs until everyone is up and parents say OK. Secondly, only one person opens one present at a time so all can enjoy! This year, Mimi and Papa brought one tradition with them--everyone got a red and checkered pair of PJs to wear Christmas Eve and Day.

One last special event occurred on this Christmas Day. Aaron and Amanda announced to all siblings that they are expecting this July--their first! This was the highlight of our Christmas Day!

During our visit, we did quite a lot that included: to movies to see Yogi; fun at "Jump and Trampoline"; made a Ginger Bread House; ate at Costa Veda, Cafe Rio, and Baha Fresh; attended church; shopping; watched a couple of Blu Ray movies including Percy Jackson and How To Train your Dragon; and played many different Wii games including Harry Potter Leg, Just Dance 2, and bowling. We also spent time at the neighborhood park on a very cool day.

While we were here in Boise, we also decided to celebrate Lori's (March) and the three January birthdays. We did with a large cookie and gifts that included: Derek got scarf, gloves and BSU cap; Maya got a Jewelry cabinet; Lori and Derek got a Food Saver vacuum sealer; and Tutz gave me a Nuvii 1450T with case!

We were a little disappointed that it did not snow on Christmas Day--even though it did back home in Georgia. We did get some snow in Boise --but not much.

Speaking of snow, the roads were snowy in the high altitudes on our way back to Salt Lake City on Tuesday the 28Th--where we checked into the Holiday Inn Express at the airport. We were told that a major snow storm was coming on the day of our flight home--we missed it by an hour so!

Upon arrival in Atlanta around 8:00 EST, Aaron was there to help with baggage and take us home. We were very fortunate as all was well at Little Falls Farm!

As a final note, now that we both are retired, our plans for all future Christmas seasons are to take turns traveling to, and visiting with, all grand kids--present and future--albeit in Kansas, Arlington, Boise, Marietta, and parts beyond. This is fair warning to you all--LOL!

Carol's Surprise Birthday Party 12-8-2010

I did it!

After months of planning, making calls, extending invitations, and even making extra trips to the Mexican restaurant in Madison, it happened.

Some 25 of my invited family and friends were able to surprise Carol as we went to dinner on her 65th birthday.

It was held at Pacho's in Madison. We eat at this restaurant weekly and know well not only the owner (Tony) and manager (Santiago), but all the waiter staff including Mayo--our own special waiter for the evening. I arranged thru Tony and Santiago to reserve the separate dinning room where two good friends from church were able to buy the necessary flowers, trimmings, and party favorites to make the room and tables "pop"!

By the appointed time of 6:30--Wednesday December 8th--all guests had arrived and were waiting for our unusual late arrival and on cue, yelled "surprise" as we rounded the corner into the room.

After many photos were taken of Carol with her "deer in the headlights" look and before we ordered dinner, I took a few moments to thank all who attended, participated, and traveled far (Carol's sister Kaye and her BF Allen flew in from DC, my buddy Jim Price flew in from Pittsburgh) for this very joyous occasion.

With the cameras clicking by several during the evening, Carol roamed the room to speak with all. At my request, our server was Mayo whom we have known for some time now--the food and service was great!

As we returned home late at night, Carol went "on and on" how happy she was and that it will be hard to "top" this 65th birthday!

Booth 217 at Covington Antiques and Stuff

A few months back we decided it would be to our tax advantage to boost our efforts in selling antiques and collectibles. After some extensive research, we signed a 6 month contract with Covington Antiques and Stuff and took possession of booth 217 in same on August 2nd, 2010. Our booth is 8 X 10 and is on the corner of an isle near the back of the large antique mall. The booth came with walls made of 2x4s and lattice work--perfect for hanging items for display.

After moving in, we began to sell items and thru 2010, it has already paid for the $105 monthly rent--including the 12% paid to the mall of all sold items.

We try to match some of the booth contents with the season--thus far in 2010--we have displayed and sold items for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and most recently Christmas. In fact, below are photos taken 11-11 where we just added the Xmas ornaments and other items of of the season.

October has been designated as "DECK MONTH" here at Little Falls Farm. Why you ask? Simple. The deck needs a rebuild/renovation and October begins the cooler fall season here in the south allowing a more comfortable time to work outside!

What to do? We first thought a new floor with planks made out of that expensive composite would be of order--expensive--but of order in the sense of it's no maintenance and longevity. However, the more this was discussed, the more it was felt that a simple repair of the floor planks that needed replacing with similar treated inexpensive planks would be in order. We did know however, all the railing would be replaced--never liked the cheap look that was there to begin with and most had rotted anyway!

With a game plan in tow, off to my favorite Lowe's--in Madison--and materials were purchased with a $500 budget in mind. Started work on posts support under the deck on Monday Oct 4th. Continued with railings on the 6th (Carol and I had a fun day on 5th with Mattie spending night in Doggy Day Care) and worked more on the 7th most of the day until cousin Gary Willard arrived in later afternoon to spend the night.

I continued working on the deck Friday and Saturday --October 8th and 9th with almost completion. The project BTW included a porch swing and new light fixture. Because I am using new and uncured treated lumber, as son Joe points out, it will be about 6 months from now (May 2011) before the new wood can be painted. The floor will be painted a gritty grey as matches front porch, the railings will be a white, and the hand rails will be the forest green that matches the shutters of the house.

While I do have areas to tweak--here are some photos of the almost completed/renovated deck! To see the new porch light fixture and to enjoy the swing (this is the older swing from the front porch--new chain added)--you must come and see us at the farm! BTW--call first so we can open the gates--LOL!

As I mentioned earlier--my budget was $500. As of today--realizing I must still buy paint--I have spent $709. Keep in mind, this has included floor planks, posts, rails with stringers, handrails, and support joists/posts/concrete slab, chain, fixture--along with three (3) pieces of 4 x 8 lattice for the portion of deck support. I do feel good that while I am over budget slightly, this $709 pales in comparison if I had gone with entire floor replacement with the very expensive composite flooring!

It's that time of the year! Fall! Let me say that again as it sounds to me as the perfect weather season of the year--FALL!!! Many things and events happen during fall here in the south. Two that come first to mind are: Craft shows --especially for you women; and Car Shows for us men--and women!!
Having said that, each year my sweet wife Carol and I usually attend a few car shows and try not to miss the 250 + cars at the Classic Car Show held on the square in Covington, Georgia. This was their 18th year in a row.
The weather was perfect at a mild 68 and very sunny. Did I mention perfect sunshine? Perfect for using the Polarizing filter on my trustee Nikon D40 Digital SLR camera. Notice how blue the sky is!
The car show is held the first week-end of October each year. This year we noticed two things. More cars for sale than ever in previous years. Yea, there's always a few up for grabs where the owner may be looking to upgrade. This year however, there was more of a sense of "urgency" to sale and many, many more on the old auction block. The other thing noticed was there were less number of cars. Even with a local Chevrolet dealership taking up 8-10 spaces to market new 2010-2011 cars including the new Camaro, there were at least 20-30 spaces vacant. Both issues may be a direct influence of the struggling US economy.
On a bright note, a local jewelry store just happened to be open allowing us to stop, browse, and check on a security chain for Carol's Pandora bracelet that was back ordered. To our surprise, the shop owner just happened to find one where others had overlooked. Voila--we all were happy--especially Tutz as she will add the chain once we return home!
After a couple hours of enjoying many "Kodak" moments--a few are below, we left the show and ate a great (but somewhat expensive $30) lunch at Longhorn. As creatures of habit--we ordered our usual--Tutz gets the kid's portion of shrimp with baked potato and I my usual chicken tenders with rice and steamed veggies--all was good but way too much--as we brought several chicken tenders home for my evening salad and a shrimp with the bread Carol loves!
What a fun day. Me, my lovely wife, muscle cars, great fall weather, and good eats! Hard to beat but we'll keep trying--LOL!

Las Vegas Hard Rock Cafe Pinsanity VI

It began months ago. The planning that is. Once I decided I would attend my first Las Vegas Pinsanity, a lot of things had to happen. Namely, redeem AX points for non-stop airline ticket on Delta. Next came the major help from special friends in the HRCPCC (Hard Rock Cafe Pin Collectors Club) who helped with lodging, transportation, and entertainment. It all came together nicely for the best HRC Pin Trading event ever!!

I flew to Las Vegas on Tuesday September 7th, 2010--from Atlanta it was 4 hours and 19 minutes. A most pleasant flight with a window seat with excellent view on the Port side--which allowed me to take photos of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Arrived in Vegas around 10:00 am and was immediately picked up by two friends.

After checking into room 7-425 of Tower II of the MGM (these are up scale condos attached by enclosed walked-ways with moving side walks to the MGM Casino and Hotel), the three of us drove out to Hoover Dam for a tour. They have added a really nice gift shop, covered parking, restaurant, and of course, a new by-pass road and bridge that opens November 2010.

Returned to Vegas to "The Strip" Hard Rock Cafe for the 3:00 "meet and greet". Met several pin traders for first time. The HRC also provided us with a really nice dinner buffet. At 8:00 or so, we headed to the Aria and retrieved previously paid for tickets for the "Viva Elvis" show. Attended it at 9:30--it was great!! To room by 12:00---a very long day!

First thing on Wednesday I walked to the original HRC and new Hotel and Casino only 3 blocks away for my "visit credit in the club". Back to trading in Pinsanity and a lot of photos. Had a lot of fun with several great traders. After trading over, we ate at Metro Pizza and later I walked the strip a couple of times for exercise.

Thursday was another day of pin trading that started with a furnished breakfast by the HRC. Some of the guys from yesterday opted out today and did not show--but fun was still had! I acquired the 10 event pins along with 10 Grand Opening and Staff pins--these are the only kind I collect these days and are harder to come by!

I headed to the strip in early afternoon to take several photos--I brought both the Fuji point and shoot, and my good Nikon D40--using that camera outside with a polarizing filter allowed some great photos. I ate at a Mexican restaurant with midgets of Marilyn and Elvis out front. Continued into the evening enjoying the sights and sounds till bed time.

A friend picked me up at 5:45 am on Friday and out to airport for checking one bag and one carry-on. Again, sat by the window on port side--sitting beside an Allstate Operations employee out of Roanoke who knows some of the same folks I do in Atlanta. Great tail wind as the trip to Atlanta was 3 hours and 15 minutes--arriving at 3:20 pm.

To end a perfect trip, I met Carol at Pacho's in Covington for dinner and then home to a very excited and happy Yorkie--Mattie had missed me all week!!

West Glacier National Park--55 degrees in the morning--high of 70--perfect weather!!

Visiting Derek, Lori, Maya, Kyle, and Avery in Meridian--this was the highlight of our vacation!!!

We left Georgia on Friday June 11th and returned home on Monday July 5th. During that 25 days, we travelled to such places as: Memphis, Branson, Kansas City, Omaha, Cheyenne, Billings, Glacier National Park, Seattle, Oregon, Boise, Salt Lake City, Denver, Air Force Academy, Dodge City, Tulsa, and Little Rock. A total of 7,375 miles were driven on the new truck.

The highlight for Carol and I first and foremost was spending time with Derek, Lori, Maya, Kyle, and Avery in Meridian/Boise, Idaho. Time spent with family is invaluable and it had been a long two (2) years since I had seen the kids. We both needed a "Grandparent Fix" and this was the perfect solution!!!! It's an understatement to say I was totally amazed at how the kids have grown--in physical size, skills and maturity!!!!!

We had lots of fun with Derek, Lori and the grandkids --here are some of the highlights:

picked cherries;

had a picnic at local park that included football, Bocci Ball (Kyle is really good), and hiking to the top of a very steep hill that over looks Boise (not for the cardiac challenged);

watched Maya ride her electric scooter, Kyle his dirt bike and Power Wing, and cute Avery her pink bike sans training wheels;

played in water and gift shopping downtown;

ate lunch at a Mexican (Costa Vida on Eagle Road)restaurant;

Derek and Kyle operated electric and gas powered monster trucks on dumes;

each grandchild had their own time in Papa's new truck;

the kids played with Mattie (Avery loved to walk her--video on YouTube);

all three have drawing and art talents--they are doing so well;

Kyle's art and his advanced reading skills;

Maya's autobiography describes things about her and her nack for drawing dresses;

really got a kick watching the kids decide what they would buy at Target with the money Papa and Mimitutz gave them;

watching "Alice in Wonderland" on the new HD LED screen;

playing Wii games; and

one of my favorites were Lori's famous burritos and her home-made vanilla ice cream!!!!

We had two "firsts" on this trip that made it even more enjoyable. It had been Carol's dream for some time that she see and experience Glacier National Park (we have already been to several large parks including Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Mt Rushmore, Custer, Zion, Brice, Denali, etc). Because there were 50-60 foot snow drifts at Logan Pass, we had to drive from the west to the top, stop and turn around, and next day drive from the east. The scenery was breathtaking and we loved the cool 55 degree temperature!!

The second "first" was the state of Oregon. Up to this trip, we had traveled in and thru 48 states. So it was that our bucket list include Oregon as our 49Th state. We chose to spend most of our time in the northwest coastal area and specifically in Cannon Beach and Seaside. What great views we had as we rode south on 101 down to Tillamook where they make the famous cheese!

As a side note, the 2010 Ford F150 Lariat Super Crew Cab was a pleasure to drive and very comfortable and roomy. We got real use to "air conditioning seats" real quick as there were some days the temp hoover around 100.We average around 20 MPG which is great considering the terrain and that the truck weighs 5500 pounds empty. I washed the truck at least three (3) times along the way plus I kept the bumper, grill, and mirrors cleaned from dirt and bugs ( I used Windex and cleaning rags).

Papa John and Two New Grandsons--Henry and Drew

Carol and I left Thursday April 22nd, 2010 for the DC area. This would be a very exciting trip as it would be the first time we would meet the two newest grandsons in the family (this makes 3 as the oldest is Kyle born to my son Derek and wife Lori back in May 2003).

We had a wonderful time with the boys along with family and friends.

Drew Spencer Ovard was born at 2:01 am on Wednesday April 7th, 2010. Drew weighed 7.6 pounds and is 20 inches long. Proud parents Tracy and Odie are doing well. Photos posted are from his aunt Tabitha. Mother and Drew will be leaving for home Friday.

I am very blessed with this 5th grandchild and 3rd grandson! Carol and I are looking forward to seeing both new grandsons (Henry Grant Liddiard and Drew) the end of April as we attend their blessings in Arlington.

The above photos were taken today as the shed was completed. This took me about two (2) weeks from start to finish--not bad as a solo project and with my left thumb seriously injured by hammer the first day.

All and all, this was a fun project as it allowed me to mix new and old materials-reducing overall costs as planned.

Over the next few weeks I hope to add some shelves and cabinets as part of the tractor bay where work on it and oil changing of Ranger will take place!

New Shed Under Construction

These photos were taken Wednesday March 24th, 2010. I had just finished putting the tin on the roof. I am recycling the tin from the old shed which is tougher than if it were new tin--matching existing holes with 2x4 cross members is harder than it looks!

My intent is to have the 16 foot shed the full length of the barn or 60 feet.

When we purchased Little Falls Farm in 2003, this shed consisted of the two center bays only. After a couple of years, both left and right bays were added along with an extension on the back by another 10 feet or so. At that time, the large Oak tree to the right (10 feet to the right of the white Ford Ranger in the photo) was live and well--even though it was leaning toward the shed.

About two years ago, this large oak was hit by lightning and died. I talked to several folks one of whom recommended a tree surgeon. The only way this tree can be cut down without demolishing the shed is to climb its limbs with chainsaw in tow and slowly and methodically remove the large limbs from top to bottom. This process has now become too unsafe since it's limbs have rotted and probably will not support a man's weight. Not to mention that we are talking $1300 to $1500.

Having said that, I came up with a great idea and my senior VP (Tutz) seconded the motion. The plan is simple. I will demo the shed piece by piece and recycle what I can. Those materials worth saving (tin, lumber, and treated posts) will be used in the new shed. The other photo above shows the right bay removed and the left under demolition.

The new shed will be attached to my barn/workshop on the back side. The dimensions of the new shed will be the full length of the barn--60 feet--and 15 feet wide. It will be able to house all the items under the current shed and then some. It also will serve as a protection in the unlikely case we suffer hail and need to park both the Beetle and F150 under it.

At a later date, I will BLOG as to the new shed.

As part of the deal, the dealership would "throw in" running boards. They arrived Wednesday morning, I got a call from the sales person around noon, and by 2:30 they were installed!!! While the boards were being added, the great service from Courtesy Ford included a ride in the courtesy van over to Kohl's Department Store (normally I would walk, but it was pouring down rain) so I could do some shopping---now that's service. My new truck looks complete and great, not to mention that Carol can hop into the passenger seat with somewhat ease!!

All the years have been good to me!! Especially 1984, 1988, and 1992! Why? In these three years, I purchased a new vehicle--Toyota P/U, Nissan Maxima, and Nissan Pick-up, respectively! So as one can see, I have owned only 3 new vehicles in my life--discounting of course starting in 1992 when I would get a new company car just about every year up thru 2009 when I retired.

Having said that, I now can add number 4 to the list.

On Friday March 5th, 2010, Carol and I went looking for a truck. We knew I needed to buy something large that would support comfort as we head out west this June 12th. Also, in addition to looking for the creature comforts and smooth ride, we knew that some day my little 1996 Ford Ranger could give up the ghost and anyone on 12 acres must have a truck!

A friend at church a few months back had brought a new truck at the Ford dealership in Conyers and highly recommended we visit the owner and use my friend's name to help negotiate the best price. As we arrived at the dealership around 10:00, we were met with the customary salesman--in this case--sales woman. We agreed that we would look awhile and then come in to meet with her and the owner.

We identified a black 2010 XLT F150 that had the things we wanted and so into the office. Met with the owner--Jay--who presented us with a nice jester--he has a Lariat demo (5100 miles)that he wanted us to also test drive. So with Mary (saleslady) in the back seat, off we go! First the black XLT and then the white two tone Lariat. Took the same test route in both units--left on the access road a few miles to Ammon Road where we took a right onto I-20--this was a must as we really wanted to see how smooth the ride would be on an interstate. Both trucks had a very nice ride--but the Lariat rode a little smoother and heavier!

We were impressed with both vehicles! But hands down, the Lariat has more bells and whistles than one could imagine on a pick-up truck. These trucks are not your granddad's farm work horses!! We returned to the dealership and spent some more time discussing what we wanted to do. Finally I made an offer to the owner on the Lariat--I would go with the discounted price he quoted me ($9,000 off the MSRP) if he threw in running side boards (a $500 wholesale value)--which on this size truck is a must for me but especially Carol's 5 foot stature! After a little bit of sparring back and forth, the deal was struck!

As agreed, the dealership would take a couple of hours to prep, change oil, rotate tires, etc while we would go to lunch and return later with a check. Carol and I were really hungry so we stopped in Covington and had our favorites at the local Longhorn. After stopping by BB&T to retire a CD I had taken out last year (specifically to buy a vehicle), we proceeded out to the farm to get checkbook, camera, etc. and back to dealership.

Mary met us to say it would be about another hour and as to the running boards, they had been ordered and should be here in 10 business days--so we'll have that done in a couple of weeks. After spending an hour at the nearby Belks, we returned to the dealership where I wrote the largest check I have ever written for a vehicle, completed the neccesary paperwork, and picked up my new truck!

First order of business after the paperwork was to have Mary set me up a SYNC account--this allows all the service to be monitored and notify me when service is needed! Afterwards, Alaina the service consultant synched our phones so that we have Bluetooth thru the sound system of the cab--all hands free and voice activated! After that, Mary went with us to a local convenience store where she pumped and filled our 26 gallon tank--part of the service of the dealership. Back to dealership where we took photos of Mary giving me the keys and around 5:00 we left for home. Carol followed me in her "Tutzmobile". What a day!!

Just so you know, the Lariat has the all leather package along with additional features that are too numerous to mention here--but some of the highlights include: larger Michelin tires, 5.6L V8 engine, 6 speed automatic heavy duty trans, powered sunroof and electric rear window, keys entry automatic adjust seat, heated and cooled seats, Heavy Duty trailer hitch package, reverse sensing system with camera, 6 CD changer and MP3 outlet, tele folding-heated mirrors, both seats are electrical with lumbar support, TPMS, keyless entry pad, dual heat/air control system, 20 MPG Highway, and 6 months of Sirius radio.

BTW, the official ID of this truck is: 2010 F-150 4X2 Supercrew Lariat 145" wheelbase, 5.4L FFV V8 with electronic 6 speed auto and a 26 gallon tank. Also, these new trucks do not have gas caps any more! The truck has an Oxford White Clearcoat upper and a Champagne Pearl lower trim.

Last year I rewarded myself with a new JVC Camcorder--model GZ-MG630. Very easy to operate and extremely small and compact. Around that same time I created a YouTube account but never really uploaded any videos. All the videos I've created since last year are safely stored on my PC with appropiate portable HD backup.

Yesterday--2-19-10--I decided it was time to upload vidoes for all the world to view--but specifially family members. My first attempt was a 2 and half minute video of Mattie playing in the snow. It was 193 mb in size and took hours to upload and never completed the process. I knew something was wrong. So, after some research, I realized that my PC came with Windows Movie Maker which can change the file type and compress the size. After a little pratice, presto--success!!

As I write this, I have uploaded 6 videos with more on the way. So, if you would like to view--please go to YouTube home and under search put in: TheJvonc After it goes to my account, click on the TheJvonc id and all my videos will come up!

Granddaughter's First Note to PapaJohn & Mimitutz!!

I couldn't resist!!

When I got this "thank you" note last week from my oldest grandchild--Maya--I knew it was special. At 9 years old, this is the first note I have received that was written completely by her own hand--and what excellent penmanship!!! What a sweet and tender message. Shows a lot of great character at such an early age. I am very proud of her!!

So, I knew I had to scan and save her note in a special folder for many years to come.

So Maya, if and when you read my BLOG, I want you to know how special this note is and what it means to Mimitutz and me.

BTW, I always thought Mimitutz and I rocked, but thanks to you Maya, I now "know" we do--:o)))

Valentines Day--2010

Valentines Day is very special to Carol and I. It was that special day in 1991 that I proposed to my sweetie and she accepted! We were married a little over 6 months later on September 20th.

Ever since 1992, we have tried-very successfully I might add, to make Valentines Day special. In fact, we started a tradition that continues to this day. We alternate the responsibility each year for deciding where/what we will do and to surprise the other. And just an additional note, this was our 19th time to celebrate Valentines Day!

So it was that 2010 was my turn. Weeks ago I had ordered and paid for our tickets to the Georgia Aquarium on line including parking in the covered lot next door. I advised Carol this morning to dress warm and wear good walking shoes. Our tickets were for 11:00 and we left Mattie behind around 9:30.

As we traveled on I-20 toward Atlanta, Carol and I played the guessing game--she made some good guesses including the Atlanta Zoo, Jimmy Carter Library, etc. It was just in sight of the aquarium when I surprised Carol with this years' surprise. Carol was ecstatic as we had said many times we wanted to visit the all famous aquarium.

After parking the "Tutzmobile" on the 3rd parking level, we prceeded to the entrance. We felt at home as the first thing we did was have our photo taken by a professional service--this is very similar to the professional photographers that roam cruise ships.

We entered the aquarium around 10:30 and spent probably at least 2 and half hours. We had so much fun, taking photos at every turn. Families with small children were everywhere and so friendly--we had serveral folks that took our picture with my little Fuji camera, and I in turn took photos for others. We saw everything there except the 3D movie--we felt it would be somewhat anti-climatic after seeing so many live fish in the various tanks.

We did however stop in the gift shop. We found our obligatory christmas tree ornament and lapel pins. Carol found a couple pieces of jewelry and shawl. Just before we exited, we stopped an purchased from the photographers booth the photo taken of us as we entered the aquarium. We brought the package that included a large print, 3 smaller ones, and small magnetic picture frames for 2 small prints -- all for $30.

After leaving Atlanta, we thought we would eat lunch at Longhorns but unfortunately the ones in both Conyers and Covington were way too busy with minimum 40 minute waits. We settled on a 10 minute wait at Appleby's in Covington. Carol chose fried shrimp and I had their chicken alfredo--it all was good. We returned home round 3:00.

Once again, we had a great and special Valentines Day!!

Henry Grant Liddiard was born to proud parents Tabitha and Evan at 3:41 pm on Monday Feburary 8th, 2010. Henry weighed 10.1 pounds and is 22 inches long. Mother and son are doing great and should be coming home in a couple days. Henry is my 4th grandchild and 2nd grandson. He was born in the city of Arlington, Va.

Tabitha and Evan were accompanied by my youngest Tracy and her husband Odie--both also from the city of Arlington. Tracy is also expecting a son and is due in early April.

Mattie Home From Ms Becky's-Jan 29th, 2010

Mattie gets groomed about every 6 weeks. Over the years, our groomer Ms Becky, has refrained from placing a bow in her hair simply because Mattie quickly "shakes" it out! Last week was an exception. When I picked Mattie up, there she was in her full glory and with a hair bow to boot. I could not resist but to come home and take photos. Here are two of my favorites!

Man Cave Bath Renovation--Jan 2010

On January 18th, 2010, I completed the full renovation of the powder room bath off the kitchen. I decided I would take some time off before starting my next "self imposed" project.

So it was, on January 21st (3 days later), I took photos of the "before" man cave bathroom and we headed to Lowes in Madison to choose a pint of paint as a test sample. Came home and tried the green sample--I did not like--too light. Back to Lowes and decided on a slightly darker green called Lyndhurst Spring Eve. Part of the reason we went green is this color--in a different shade--is found in the shower curtain, bath towels, and other amenities. Our plan was to change the yellow wall color to a green and keep everything else as is! Also, my plans are to change the venting fan to a quieter design and upgrade the towel rack, toilet paper holder, and hand towel to a new chrome.

I applied the first coat of green to the walls on January 22nd and the second and final coat the next day on the 23rd. On January 24th, I carefully removed all the shoe molding--this is smaller than quarter round--along with the linoleum floor that had buckled behind the commode. While the linoleum had originally been glued down, it came up fairly easily--exposing the bare concrete floor below. The next day I removed the commode and painted the wall behind it. The original walls were wall papered with an Arnold Palmer golf theme--was it ever ugly. The afternoon of the 25th found me beginning the tiling process. I completed the floor tiling at 1:00 on Tuesday 26th--allowing it to dry and somewhat cure for the next 36-48 hours.

The tiles are my first in the size of 13 x 13--most I have put down have been 12 x 12. I decided to use the same stagger design as the bath upstairs. We brought two boxes plus 4 individual tiles--upon completion, there were a couple partial pieces left--good measuring and estimating on my part! BTW--the tile has a green tone with a little light reddish tint--should be perfect to blend and compliment the walls and grout!

On Thursday, January 28th, I mixed the 25 pound bag of dry grout in a dry bucket. After thoroughly mixing, I returned about half to the original plastic bag. The remaining I mixed with water to obtain the desired consistency. I began with applying the grout in all the groves and letting sit for 30 minutes. For the next hour or so, using a clean sponge and water, I began to clean the extra grout from all tiles--it took about 6 times to get the tiles clean and sparkle free. Finished around noon and will now allow to thoroughly cure for next 36 hours.

Friday the 29th was officially "Completion" day. I started with cutting to lenght and installing all the quarter round molding that had two coats of white trim paint. Afterwards, I applied caulking and then painted finishing nail holes. Then came the real challenge--reinstalling the commode. It took Carol and I two attempts but finally success--yea! After making certain the unit was properly bolted to drain flange, Tutz and I put up the shower curtains and wall hangings. Job complete and it looks great!

Bathroom Renovation-Jan 2010

I retired last July 1st. Prior to that, projects took a long time when only Saturdays were available. No more. Now I can start a project and days later, (not months) its complete.

So it was with the powder room off of our kitchen. We decided on the paint, tile, and new sink & faucet late in December 2009. January 6th, I took photos of the bathroom as the starting "before" point. Yesterday, January 18th or just 12 days later, the project is completed!

Just a couple of comments before viewing below the photos leading up to the finished project.

There were 3 different colors/styles of wall paper. We knew it would not be removed without damage to the dry wall. So, first job was to add drywall mud to all seams and let dry and sand--had to do this twice before I got that smooth finish I was looking for. Next, one coat of primer followed by two coats of a bold red referred to as Cranberry. Afterwards, I laid down the floor tile backer board, then tiled with thin set and later adding grout. With water and sponge, cleaned grout then painted and reinstalled quarter round molding. Added a half inch toilet flange spacer (this is required due to added height of backer board and tile)and reinstalled toilet with new wax seal.

After confirming the toilet was installed correctly with no leaks, I now installed the antique oak vanity--first drilling large 2 1/2 inch holes for the water and drain lines. BTW--I failed to mention I previously added a new light fixture we really like.

Once the vanity was installed to the wall, I added both faucets and white vessel and added new water lines and drain pipes. Afterwards, with new light switch plate, towel rack, and wall hanging--the job was complete.

Beyond Allstate...

June 26th, 2009--my last day in the office.

Carol and I on May 20th, 2009 at my retirement party.

That's me in 1980 (4th from left) in the old Commercial Regional Office at a staff meeting---had to wear coat and ties back then!

My sweet wife just added a post titled "Honey, I'm Home..." commemorating the fact that as of June 30th, 2009, after some 33 years I have now officially retired from Allstate Insurance Company. Suffice it to say that those were great years and a great carreer.

I was hired by Allstate in Greensboro, NC and immediately relocated to the Charlotte Region starting my career on September 20th, 1976. I knew up front as a condition of employment I would be relocating to the Atlanta area in a year or so. And after just a little over a year in Charlotte, the company moved us to Atlanta.

From 1977 thru 1990 we were considered the Southern Commercial Regional Office located off I-75 and Northside Parkway. It was during those years I advanced from Unit Manager to Territorial Underwriting Manager (TUM) to Terrirtorial Commercial Manager (TCM) in 1988.

Allstate at one point decided to take it's quality to the next level and contracted with a Florida company who presented us with a plan to improve our quality standards. I was one of a few selected to attend a Quality College and learn how to teach those standards. For about 2 years (1988 thru 1990) we taught all of our Commercial Associates how to "do it right the first time, on time, every time" via the Quality Education System (QES).

Also, in 1982 I was one of the youngest managers to be selected to participate in the Manpower Development Rotational Program (MDRP). I entered what then was Personnell (now Human Resources) for 3 months and interviewed some 385 employment applicants for positions we were hiring for. From there I went to the Comptroller's Department and worked on the region's budget planning and lastly I rotated into a newly formed Commercial Division of Allstate named Northbrook P&C--we contracted only with selective large alphabet houses who could write millions of Commercial premium overnight. I stayed there for three years and was promoted back to the Allstate side in mid 1985 as a TUM.

In the early 90's we sold the large Commerial Region where some 600+ employees worked for so many years and moved to a high rise at 5660 New Northside Drive just outside I-285 next to the Chattanoochee River on north side of Atlanta. My office originally was on the 8th floor but later moved up to the 9th.I was one of a few TCMs whose department marketed Commercial products thru both the captive and independent agents market distribution system.

On 10-27-92, I transferred over to a new division that would handle Independent Agents only. This operation was so new that another manager (from NY) and I were given the charge to decide what we would call ourselves and develop a postion standard as to our accountabilities. We came up with Commercial Field Manager (CFM) and thus started my last 17 years with Allstate--these years were to be spent working from home and travelling every week.

Originally we had one profit center named Independent Agent Regional Commercial Center (IARCC). It had the Chicago and Atlanta offices. I found myself traveling between the two quite often. We added CFMs--each with company cars, expenses, and objective to profitably grow the top line (new business). As time went on, I went from being responsible merely for a territory to once again managing folks.

In addition to having Georgia and the Carolinas as my personal territory, I also managed about 7 CFMs located in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, New York, and Pennsylvania. I traveled at least once a year with each of these in their markets and we also had at least one CFM Conference in Atlanta and I would also bring them in during either Christmas or Kick Off meetings. Those were great times!

Over the years I had great folks that I worked with, for and managed. Those are the memories I now carry with me. I even had some great trips to Home Office where we worked hard and played hard. I remember one such trip included a boat ride down the Chicago River into Lake Michigan. Likewise, I worked in the San Francisco Branch Office of Northbrook for two weeks auditing their compliance to underwriting standards. I had a great time each evening just touring that wonderful city. I also had great trips to LA and other places over the years--these will be the fond memories I now will treasure.

This feature is titled "Beyond Allstate". So, what is in store for me now that I have closed that Allstate chapter?

Looking ahead, first and foremost Tutz and I now enjoy sitting at the breakfast table for lunch and eat without interruption. Also, we are having a great time each morning on the screen-in porch--making and discussing our plans for the day and week. Plus, we are not very far from each other--this is by far the greatest part of retirement for me--after all these 17 years of being apart during the week, we are now together and I have now found my real "comfort zone".

Naturally, I have projects around the farm I want to start and finish--all in the same day or week! As I write this I have a note beside my laptop that has 14 "to do" items on it that range from adding stepping stones from drive to workshop, to putting down tile in the "man cave" bath, with projects in between. I will look forward to sneaking up on each one of these in a calm and organized fashion as opposed to thinking I have to do these between 8:00 am and Noon on Saturdays.

Another great part of retirement is flexibility. If I get up one day and decide instead of working on a project let's take the new Beetle to the mountains--then off we go! Mattie has gotten use to me being around full time and now really gets angry when I leave---oh the joys of having a 5 pound Yorkie that suffers from Separation Anxiety--LOL.

I also will now have more time to "walk the walk" as it relates to one of my goals--that is to perform at least one good deed daily. That combined with my church calling will balance my life and purpose! Not to mention I have already begun the mental transition of emotionally caring for those issues I have control over and removing from my daily thought process those issues/items abeit politics, etc I have no or very limited control over.

Carol told me just today that the beauty of retirement is: "..wait up when you want to, go to sleep when you want to, and eat when you want to!"

Oh retirement---there is life after Allstate!!!

GARDEN 2009

Here are some more recent photos taken June 13th.

It had been about 4 years since the last soil sample. The rows in the garden had changed in that time. So, after taking samples from several areas, to the county agent's office I went. Paid the $8 and about a week later received the soil analysis write-up from UGA up in Athens. My garden originally had a lot of acid. No more! In fact, the instructions were very specific--DO NOT ADD ANYMORE LIME! But, I did need to add 10-10-10 fertilizer and a little surfur. I did so in the voulume suggested and tilled it in.

Looking at the garden from the gate (toward the barn) and starting with the far right row as row number 1, here is what I planted this year:

Who Am I?

I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women.

I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me. My mother died at an early age from cancer.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my country, but

I practiced non-traditional beliefs & didn't follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult, disguising myself as someone who really cared about them.

That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

I became active in local politics in my 30's then with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40s. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything. That reinforced my conceit.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every opportunity to bash my country.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making citizens hate them and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

I called mine "A People's Campaign" and that sounded good to all people.

I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

I knew that, if I merely offered the people 'hope' , together we could change our country and the world.

So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include "persecuted minorities" like the Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown, until after I became my nation's leader.

I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with.

I'm glad they didn't. Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.

New Roof & Gutters

Unbeknownst to us since we were out of town, we had a hail storm that came thru our part of Georgia back on May 15th, 2008. When our neighbors began to have their roofs replaced a few months ago, we learned hail damage to be the culprit. A local roofer found similar damage to our roof, so we filed a claim.

Our insurance carrier contracted with an independent adjuster who found major hail damage not only to the roof, but all air vents, turbines, chimney metal encasement, gutters, and even some of our window screens.

Upon getting the official claim estimate, we contracted with the same roofer who came highly recommended by our neighbors-- and work began on Monday , May 20th. Three days later, we had a new 25 year Onyx roof.

We had all the guttering removed and another contractor whom we're used more than once, replaced/repaired all rotten facial board ---a painter came behind him with caulking gun and trim paint.

On May 24th, the gutter company arrived in the pm and began to replace the 5 inch gutters with 6 inch. Also, additional down spouts were added. Monday, May 27th the gutters were all installed.
